God Mars is set in the year 1999, where humanity is expanding beyond the solar system. The planet Gishin, under Emperor Zule, plans to conquer the galaxy and targets Earth for elimination. Zule sends a baby with a powerful robot, Gaia, to Earth. The baby is to be raised among humans, then activate the planet-destroying bomb within Gaia. Instead, the child is adopted by a Japanese family and given the name Takeru. Growing up, Takeru develops a love for humanity and refuses to detonate the bomb. He joins the Earth defense forces, becomes part of the elite Crasher Squad, and takes a last stand against Gishin's attack. Takeru's relationship with his brother Maag is complicated by their conflicting allegiances. Unbeknownst to Gishin, Takeru's father created five other robots in secret, which can combine with Gaia to form the giant robot Godmars, protecting Earth and its inhabitants.
