The war between the Kingdoms of Dolhr, Grust, and Gra, and the rest of Archanea's kingdoms, including Altea, results in King Cornelius's death, but his son Marth escapes with the help of his sister Elice. Marth and his retainers eventually find refuge on the island nation of Talys, where they stay for three years under royal protection. Marth forms a close bond with Caeda, the island's pegasus-riding princess, during his time there. When the castle town is attacked, Marth and his group repel the invaders.
