The main characters from the previous adventure have moved on to junior high, but their experience with Digimon is put to the test again when Taichi receives a distress call from the Digital World. He and other Digimon partners had lost contact after the events of their previous adventure, but a new threat from the Digimon Emperor, who is suppressing Digimon's ability to Digivolve, prompts their return. In the real world, some of the new generation of Chosen Children, including Hikari and Takeru, are reunited through school and receive new Digivices, marking the beginning of their new adventure.
