Blue Comet SPT Layzner

The anime Blue Comet SPT Layzner takes place in an alternate reality set in 1996, where humanity has developed long-range space travel and bases on the Moon and Mars. The United States and Soviet Union continue their Cold War, building military facilities in space and threatening nuclear conflict. On Mars, the UN's Cosmic Culture Club exchange program is underway, with 16 students and instructor Elizabeth stationed at the Mars base. The group, including 14-year-old narrator Anna, witnesses the arrival of four humanoid robots known as Super Powered Tracers, who engage in a fierce battle that destroys the UN base, killing most of the students and leaving six survivors stranded on the Martian battlefield.
