Michiru Kita has the ability to see a "ring of death" on people's necks, which indicates how close they are to dying. This ring is completely black for Chika Akatsuki and Shito Tachibana, two boys in her class, suggesting they are already dead. They explain to Michiru that they were kept alive through a contract with Zombie-Loan, a mysterious loan office that requires clients like them to hunt and kill zombies to pay off their debt. Michiru's unique ability, known as "Shinigami Eyes," becomes a factor in their zombie-hunting activities.
