Masaya, a first-grader, is often reliant on his classmate Akiyo, a second-grader, due to his fear of walking alone on the dark path to school. Akiyo, despite her small stature, is a capable and dependable companion. Masaya looks up to her as a role model, but a difficult situation soon leaves Akiyo overcome with sadness.
