The 73rd class of cadets from the Defense University of Kibi embarked on a shakedown cruise aboard the new starship Amaterasu before their graduation. However, their return to Kibi is disrupted by the aggressive Kingdom's declaration of war, which is met with a swift surrender from their government. The cadets' decision to launch a counterattack from the Amaterasu is fueled by their desire to take action, but they also realize they need resources to support their efforts. To gain funding, they make a deal with a galactic news network, becoming the main subjects of a reality show that broadcasts their military campaign.
