Hattori-kun, a young ninja from the Iga mountains, moves into the Sanyo family's home and enrolls in their local school, where he befriends Kenichi Sanyo. To maintain his cover, Hattori attends classes with his ninja brother Shinzo, accompanied by their ninja dog Shishimaru, and occasionally with Yumeko, Kenichi's girlfriend. However, their normal school life is disrupted by the rival Koga ninja Kemumaki and his sidekick, Kagechiyo the Shadow-cat.
