Yojiro Akizuki, a wandering mercenary, travels Japan during the late Bakumatsu period. His skills with a sword serve multiple purposes, as he uses them to track down supernatural items, often leading to violent confrontations. Akizuki's path crosses with a theater troupe whose members conceal motives that are unclear, sparking questions about the nature of their encounter.
