Hyakka Ryouran: Samurai Bride Specials take place in an alternate timeline of Japan, specifically in Great Japan (Dai Nippon-koku), where the Tokugawa shogunate remained active after World War II. The country has maintained semi-isolation from the rest of the world, with American military bases on Okinawa and southern Great Japan. At Buou Academic School, a military academy near Mount Fuji, the children of military families train to become samurai warriors amidst a power struggle between the school's student council and various factions, including the Toyotomi faction led by Yukimura Sanada and Matabei Goto, and Muneakira Yagyu of the Yagyu Dojo.
