Umaru Doma leads a double life as a model student and a slug-like otaku who indulges in junk food and gaming after school. This contrast is noticed by her friends Nana Ebina, Kirie Motoba, and Sylphinford Tachibana, who are also drawn into Umaru's daily escapades. Nana's questions about Umaru's brother Taihei and the enigmatic girl with the diamond hairpin serve as catalysts for a series of events that slowly reveal Umaru's complex relationships and motivations.
