Heroman

Joseph Carter "Joey" Jones lives with his grandmother in California's Center City, working at a local coffee shop. Despite financial struggles and being bullied at school, Joey remains optimistic due to his passion for robotics. He repairs a discarded Heybo, which he names Heroman, and is thrilled when it's struck by lightning and transforms into a giant robot. With his friend Simon "Psy" Kaina, Joey becomes embroiled in a battle against alien invaders called Skrugg, who have arrived after Professor Matthew Denton's attempts to contact them.
