The .hack//G.U. Returner continues the story of characters from previous games and .hack//Roots, with Ovan sending them an email to attend the Hidden Forbidden Festival. There, they meet an AIDA known as Chim Chim, who expresses a desire for peaceful coexistence with other players. Chim Chim's intentions are revealed when it transforms into the word "Returner", leading the characters to believe that Ovan will return to The World.
