Daisaku Kusama, a diver, is drawn into the world of giant robots after meeting a mysterious girl named V. The two visit ancient ruins in Okinawa, where Kusama makes a contract with the robot Giant Robo 1 and joins UNISOM's efforts. As commander of GR1, Kusama leads battles against the rival GRO and their own robot, the Giant Robo.
