The Makai Realm of Darkness is home to gates that allow demonic creatures known as "Horrors" to invade the world. Once inside, these creatures can take over human bodies and feed on their souls. While citizens outside the capital city are vulnerable to the Horrors, the city's spiritual force field, created by the Onmyouji sorcerer group, provides protection.

Raikou, a Makai Knight in possession of the legendary Golden Armor, has vowed to defend the people from the Horrors. Accompanied by his attendant Kintoki and the Makai Alchemist Seimei, Raikou aims to become a skilled Makai Knight, but his inexperience with the Golden Armor's side effects hinders his progress.
