Chaldea, a humanitarian agency established to prevent human extinction, is monitoring a significant event through their observer Shiva. The data indicates that humanity will likely go extinct in 2017 and suggests a singularity in space-time may be the cause. Chaldea decides to perform a risky ritual, Rayshift, but their plans are immediately disrupted when the central monitoring room of Chaldea is destroyed, blocking their operations.
