Manji, a swordsman infamous for killing 100 innocent men, is cursed with immortality by an 800-year-old nun, Yaobikuni. To atone for his crimes, Manji sets out to kill 1000 evil men, with Yaobikuni agreeing to lift the curse if he succeeds. During his journey, Manji meets Rin Asano, a 16-year-old girl seeking revenge for her parents' slaughter, and agrees to protect her for four years.
